Burleson schools teaching students to fight back? What the hell next?
BURLESON, Texas — Hoping to stiffen its defense against nefarious intruders, the Burleson school district is training students and teachers to fight back with everything from books to scissors.
I don’t want ANY kid to have to fight with whatever is at hand, I want the ‘nefarious intruder’ (whatever the hell that might mean)
not to be armed to the teeth in the first place!
Are we expecting kids to be ‘fighting’ in the frontline, (with books and pens and lunchboxes against automatic weapons?) when the only solution is to control guns. Kids are in real danger in schools because some idiots think it is their ‘right’ to have an arsenal at home?
This ’solution’ could only come from Texas!
Wayne H: You shouldn’t be allowed to own a gun, and that’s for sure! With your warped thinking, you should be kept far away from civilised society!
Truckman: You neither!

That is insane. Why don’t they just tell them if someone makes you mad–stab them with your pencil!
Anyway, going up against a gunman or some one like that with a pencil–is gonna get that kid killed.
What the hell are they thinking? Are they gonna give the kids bulletproof books or something?

the problem is it isnt happening in texas, something has to be done, you have a lot of pent of people and kids out there who think taking a gun to class will solve their problems, its a shame that we have come to this, yes gun control is one step in the right direction, drug control is a major step if it ever happens, i.e. having more severe penalties for illegal drug manufacturers and sellers.

The solution offered by Burleson is a good one. You wimpy liberals go right on blaming guns for how thier owners use them. Typical liberal cop-out. Blaming guns for killing is the same as blaming cars for drunk driving deaths.
I only wish they’d offer a program like that here in Indiana.
And people DO have a right to keep an “arsenal at home”.
You liberals just keep getting dumber and dumber every day.

If a nut come in to my kids school I want the to run or fight not you look up hopelessly as the gun is pointed at them.
NO ONE IS GOING TO DO IT BUT THEM.
the cops can not and it is not their job.(ask one) It is up to you.

Obviously if the intruder is armed with the intent to shoot or stab someone, lunchboxes, pens and scissors will have no effect. Did you hear now that they want to arm all teachers with guns in case of someone coming in with a gun to kill? What ever happened to the school locking the outside doors so no one can get in, then they can use gun proof glass and camera’s to monitor who is at the door. Then use a metal detector to scan every person that comes in and out of the school. That may help I know that it would be expensive but at the expense of a life it would mean everything. Arming a teacher who is in a high stress job could also mean they the teacher killing the students. I mean look at the teachers sleeping with the kids who is to say they wouldn’t get mad enough to shoot one with a school provided gun?

I don’t want a kid to have to fight off an intruder at school, but what is the alternative? They can either sit meekly in terror, waiting to die, or they can at least TRY to fight back in the small hopes of being able to subdue the attacker. Better to have a small chance of survival than none at all.
Controlling guns isn’t an effective solution. There are some 200 million guns in the U.S. already. Like drugs, if someone wants to have guns, they’ll get them, whether it’s legal or not. The lunatics who are hell bent on committing mass murder are going to find their weapons, one way or another. What good does it do to disarm the rest of us?

that question, and reasoning is the reason schools are targeted you moron liberal they know they are easy prey, because schools are full of liberals that could not defend their on family if they had to,at least my son knows how to defend himself, and his little sister i don’t trust liberals to do it,that’s why i teach my family to do it for themselves if i not around,my kids will not be a headline!

You have a point with the kids, but there is one big problem with your answer. It’s called the second ammendment to the Constitution of the United States.

The obvious solution is for society to get back to the basics of teaching our children right from wrong. Put eras next to one another and study specific differences such as these. I doubt you will find statistics like these school shootings in the past. These are rescent phenomenons. You will see a fundamental difference at the manner in which we raise our children. We tend (as a society) to shy away from punishing our children for wrongdoings. We let them get away with everything. We tend (as a society) to not police what they watch on television or play on their x boxes or see on their computers. We tend to do things like let children lie about their age and join MySpace, teaching them that a little lie is okay. All for fear that they won’t like us anymore. As parents, we have forgotten that raising a child is not a popularity contest. As such we have created a society that ignores the finality of death and the consequences for actions. Then we are then shocked when we see people walking into schools shootin’ it up like Dodge City.
No, I don’t want our children fighting on the front lines either. Truth be known, I would rather see the teachers and staff do exactly that. They are there to protect the students. They should do it by any means necessary, just like the children’s parents would do if they were in their custody instead of at school. But since the teachers unions won’t let that happen, why not teach them how to fight the battle. They ARE on the front lines. Why not take a page from the book of Flight 93. Those people sacraficed their lives to protect our way of life. Our children are fighting that battle as well. They need to be equipped with the ability to fight if necessary.
As for the second ammendment. The right to bear arms is most likely the only reason this country has not been invaded by foreign forces since the war of 1812. Austrailia rescently banned firearms. What happened after all of the law abiding citizens turned in thier guns was startling to say the least. Especially to Austrailian law makers. Violent crime rose exponentially, everything from robbery to murder. When a country bans firearms, the law abiding citizens follow the rules. The lawbreakers do not. Giving people who only want to do harm to society the upper hand. How would that curb school shootings? You are assuming that some of those children are not children of the lawbreakers that wouldn’t turn thier guns in.

The Colorado shooter walked around inside the school for over an hour and not one timid teacher or Principal asked him what he was doing there.
We need some people who will confront and fight back instead of the non confrontational stupid conflict resolution mind set that doesn`t work.

I agree….only in Texas! If we were spending the money appropriated to schools only for the best interest of legal residents then the schools could affford the systems needed to protect our children AND give them a decent education!

GOOD FOR THE SCHOOL!!!!!! It’s about time that we stopped raising a country of victim’s. People that think that just because there are laws they are safe are living in a dream world.
There is no way on God’s green earth we are going to stop people from doing evil deeds and no way we can eliminate anything that could be used as a weapon. The best way is to teach self reliance. Again, good for the school.
